Sony Lies & I’m Busted

I had originally planned to write this nice glowing review of the Sony work center. About I called to check on my camera and mentioned that my son’s birthday party was this weekend, they offered to upgrade the shipping to overnight to be here no later than Thursday so that I could have it for the weekend.

Well. It didn’t show up on Thursday. I called Friday morning. The first person I talked to told me that it shipped on Tuesday. They stated that the reason it had not actually shipped from UPS was because of rain. That UPS would not ship during heavy rain/thunderstorms. She gave me a tracking number from UPS and stated that It wouldn’t show up as being received by UPS, but UPS really has had it since Tuesday.

Lie #1 – If UPS does not ship in rain/thunderstorms then they would not be in business. Simple as that. But, we called the main UPS number and also the number of the one in that city to see if there was any reason that UPS was down. They both stated that there were no problems in that area.

Lie #2 – Since when does UPS not do an originating scan the second it gets in it’s possession?

I called back and the second person had about the same thing to say as the first person – but played up the “UPS is having technical difficulties”.

My husband takes over at this point – I am too mad to think correctly and he is much better at those types of phone calls anyway. The person he calls – still insists that UPS has the package. He states that he has to call UPS to see what is going on and he will call back. This is when we call UPS ourselves. It took a maximum of 30 minutes to get through to UPS and find out what we needed to know. UPS insists that they do not have the package.

FOUR HOURS LATER we still have not received a call back from the person. We decide to call and get yet another person. He immediately states – oh, your camera is lost. The procedure from here – which we can’t start until Monday (for some unknown reason) is that it will take UPS 8 business days to track to see what happened and then once that is done, it will take 8 business days for Sony to track what happened – then you may get a comparable camera for what you paid, you may get a check for what you paid. But you have to call on Monday to talk to a supervisor – they have already left for the day (very convenient I might add).

At this point I am so tired of being lied to, and we are outside of a fabric store. I was just going to purchase a new omnigrid ruler. The store I went to, the owner, is the creator of Omnigrid. That store has omnigrid in every shape and size (normally stocked) that they make – for 30% off retail.

Well, they had a flat-fold section of fabrics. HUGE area. $3.95/yard. I needed cream for my purple quilt. They had one cream that was 3″ short of 5 yards and I needed 5 yards. So I bought it. I also bought another cream that had almost 6 yards just in case the other was not enough for my quilt. I also bought 2 yards of a cream that I had run out of for my Colorful leaves quilt.

Up until this point I am still technically within my “only buy fabric to complete a quilt” guideline – even though it is 13 yards of fabric. I strayed. I was looking at some mottled pink to make a quilt for a friend that is due in January. My husband gets in the mix. He is picking out other marbles to go with it in different colors. I ended up buying another 12 yards to make another two quilts. One for the baby due in January, and one for my niece Lucy who has not gotten a quilt from me yet and she is 18 months old.

So I busted my fabric diet. It wasn’t horrible. I spent just over $100 for 25 yards of fabric. It does, however, bring my fabric yardage up to about 36 yards this month because I bought some fabric earlier this month for my BQ quilt. I didn’t even buy the ruler because they were out of stock. That is ok – once I saw the fabric bill, I wouldn’t have bought it anyway.

At the top are the two yard cuts. The bottom right is the one that has just under 5 yards that I really like for the project, but unsure of how much I needed. The bottom left is the alternative – one can always use cream/wow fabrics. For the baby quilt I am going to make the “Lucky Stars” by Atkinson Designs.

You did alright with your purchases. I’m so sorry about the Sony episode. I think about the same thing with Cingular. Makes you wonder what planet they get some of their employees from

That is going to be some really big baby quilt! Pretty fabrics though. I feel for you about the runaround you are getting with Sony. When they play two companies against each other, it is frustrating to keep having to go back and forth. I had that problem with my student loans many years ago – took me 10 years to clear it out – when I made my final payment, and wrote to everybody and anybody telling them that I wasn’t going to pay any more.
I’ve been having problems with my newspaper company. Somehow even though I paid exactly what was on the invoice, and paid it promptly, I was deliquent in my payments, and therefore can’t get the paper anymore.

at least you bought pretty fabric:-) hard not to shop as a response to angry frustration — a real comfort activitiy that it sounds like you needed.

*arghhh* I feel your frustrations. Don’t they realize that giving someone the run-around is FAR worse than just admitting an error in the first place. We can forgive a mistake — we all make them. But blatant cover up and deception is flat out wrong. Glad you got to ease some of your stress with successful fabric shopping.

There is nothing quite like venting your anger at the fabric shop. It will all get used – eventually!

[...] Will I buy another sony – probably not. I may because I have a 1 GB stick for the sony and would have to buy another stick to replace it. It does work in my husband’s camera though. I will have to see what is available for what price and how much the new memory sticks are.If you missed the previous woes with sony- you can read about it here. [...]
