Well I guess I am just an over-achiever with this one. I got this in the mail on Monday afternoon and I completed the “focus” blocks by Tuesday afternoon.
I really love that block. It looks complicated and aside from the flying geese (which I really hate!!!) it is a simple block.
I also managed to get all 6 of the 9 patch blocks done today.
These are simple and sophisticated. I will admit I HATE strip piecing. I know it is supposed to save time, but uh, NOT FOR ME!! I would rather cut out all those tiny 1 1/2” squares and sew them individually than to strip piece them. I did strip piece these blocks, and it reminded me why I hate strip piecing.
I have also been using my Marti MIchell templates with these blocks and my Designer Mystery blocks. I think that is the only reason my blocks are turning out as nice as they are.

So funny about strip piecing…I would do the exact opposite of you. I would sit and figure out how to strip piece the pattern if it wanted me to cut those little squares up..smile!!

@Traci – Thank you. I think strip piecing is not as accurate as cutting each individual unit. I never can be as accurate with strip piecing as I can with individual units.
Gosh, I got mine two days ago so I better get my little rear in gear and get them made. Can’t figure out why you don’t like strip piecing, but then we all do things differently. I just go slow and use a scant 1/4″ seam and I seem to do allright. I’m curious, what templates have you been using for these blocks? I’ve just been cutting out and sewing together and don’t see where templates are warrented as there are not odd shapes. I love to learn new things!

@Miss Jean – The reason why I don’t like strip piecing is because I don’t pin. The strips slip and my pieces end up wonky. The templates I use is Marti Mitchell Perfect patchwork templates: http://frommarti.com . It is not that they are odd shapes, I like that the seam-bulk is reduced with the templates.
