I decided (with the help of commenters) to go ahead and make it with the intended outer border.

Now to sandwich and quilt it by the end of the month.

    Wonderful! Is this Ami Simms pattern? I made the same one but in black and white and red.

      Jackie – it is from the book “Scrap basket Surprises” . I used a jelly roll and very little yardage (for the inner border).
