Love Letters

I started another Fat Quarter Shop block of the month this week.  Love Letters by This & That designs.  I know… I am addicted to Block of the Month patterns from there.

This one runs for 6 months and there are two duplicate blocks each month.  The fabric used is Etchings by 3 Sisters for Moda.  I really love the colors.  I think I am a fan of 3 Sisters fabric lines; I seem to be drawn to them and not even realize it until after they are purchased.

While I love to piece complicated blocks, I think this one “took the cake”.  I worked on the two blocks for three days.  It wasn’t all day, but several hours each day.  Between pressing, cutting, drawing diagonal lines on the backs of tons of fabric squares, it was tedious.  The result is beautiful and worth it though.

The plaid fabric is a woven.  I have never worked with wovens before.  I treated it just like a regular cotton fabric, just starched the heck out of it with my Mary Ellen’s Best Press before cutting.

  1. really, really nice. I would say it was worth the three days. Can’t wait to see the rest.

  2. really nice job kim. that is one detailed block …. please tell me it’s bigger than 12″!

  3. I also love these blocks; but they’re very easy and quick to do. Really! I converted each of the six blocks to foundation piecing. I finished my third block this afternoon in about 45 minutes (block #2). If you would like a set of foundation piecing patterns, you can email me. I’m including them with the BOM program at my local quilt shop. The cost of the six blocks is $12. I’ll mail you an original with guidance on how to sew the components together. You will need to copy the pattern onto paper piecing paper. I use Carol Doak.

  4. I love this fabric and the blocks and have converted the blocks into paper piecing patterns. If any one is interested in making them the paper piecing method, email me and I’ll give you details on how to get the patterns.
