A Presidential Quilt

Before we went camping, the guild’s annual potluck, auction, and installation of new officer’s meeting happened.  At this meeting we say goodbye to the old officers (I was the Vice President for the past two years).  One of the traditions of the guild is to make a quilt top for the out-going president.  As Vice President, it was my duty to choose a pattern, arrange for every member to have access to the pattern, and arrange the assembly of the top.

I chose this pattern from Paper Panache.  Though there were complaints that the pattern was too hard, it was the simpler of the two that I had narrowed down my choices to.  I contacted Paper Panache and she generously allowed me to make enough copies to distribute to those who do not have printer/computer access in our guild.

Here is my block:

yes, you see right… no lime green in this block!

Here is the completed top when we gave it to her:

Some of the ladies put buttons, etc on the blocks and it turned out so great!

Camping, Day Four

Day four of camping turned out to be really nice. Other than the fail of our new coolers that advertised to not to replace ice for 48 hours (we have been having to replace ice every day) it was a great day!

Breakfast was pancakes. We then went down to the beach for most of the day. My view was mostly was this

And this:

Though we had these warning signs

I even went out a couple of times into the water. The first time I tried to boogie board, but when I had the board, the waves were not cooperating. As soon as I gave the board back to my hubby, the waves picked up.

The kids buried me in sand which was a first and then burgers and smores for dinner. Now we are off to play phase ten. Goodnight!

Camping, Day Three

The end of Day two and day three of camping was much better. A lens popped out of my glasses, but at least it was in the tent. My air mattress got a hole in it sometime in the night , but luckily the aerobed pump finally charged (we have a car charger for it- but out car will only let you use the plugs if the key is in the ignition.

This is the view from inside the tent. I decided to rest after cleaning up and putting the aerobed in.

My phone has been charging while I write this, but my bed is calling me so I think I will finish charging tomorrow…. Night all

Camping, Day Two

Well, the ice cream in a bag was such a flop, I decided to nix the night of instant pudding in a bag. We will just have the normal s’mores. I was just so tired after dealing with the broken tent, the bad pump for the bed (we ended up buying two twin airbeds with battery pumps just so we could go to sleep last night.

After making the trek to the restroom at 1:30 I noticed out tent caved in a bit. I woke my husband and we fixed it. I was just getting to sleep after that and it started to rain. All over my husband because he was sleeping next to the window.

We wake up around 6 and it starts raining again. I just go back to sleep until 9 am. Then we get up and start the day. Our smaller canopy tent was not holding up to the wind so we take it down. That was the last straw for me.

I decide to drive the hour home ( in traffic) to go get the larger canopy tent. I volunteered to go since I was the one to decide not to bring it. I also figured I would sneak a quick shower. It didn’t sneak well because my hair was still wet when I drove up. Also the trip to McDonald’s wasn’t hidden when my drink wasn’t finished.

The larger canopy Is up and here is the view from inside:

Camping

I am blogging from my phone. Why? We are spending a wonderful week camping.

This was my view while cooking dinner tonight. I had made chili in advance to just heat up since the first evening is usually filled with setting up camp.

Here my husband and kids were setting up the mine and my husband’s tent. We had a snafu with the tent. One of the poles snapped, but with some ingenuity, it got fixed with some electrical tape. But our aerobed pump didn’t charge right so now we are tiring to figure out what to do about it. So my tent looks like this

Desert tonight is ice cream in a bag. I will let you know how it turns out.
