Another Un-intended Hiatus

I am such a bad blogger.  I can’t seem to blog with regularity anymore.  The last you heard I had made my awesome miPad case.  I also made a coordinating cell phone/camera case (no photos yet).  Shortly after, my laptop was giving me fits, so I had to send it in.

During that time I completed 3 new tops.  They were already started (as in the blocks were done) and all I had to do was put them together.  I also quilted two quilts.  And bound them.  By hand.  Yep.  I got a lot done.  No photos of the quilts yet though.

Last Saturday, I cut batting for probably about 15 tops. With the intentions of getting as many sandwiched as I could with my gross (1,444) of pins.  I will probably order another two gross of pins soon – you can never have too many pins.

Then I threw my back out.  It still is not feeling its best.  It hurts if I move certain ways or too quickly.  I am just resting a lot.  I wish I had something to bind by hand because there are only so many reruns of NCIS or CSI you can watch in a day.

So instead of complaining about my back, I am going to post a teaser of the tops I got completed (plus one I never got a photo of).

So look for the posts in the next few days.  Yes, they will be there because they will be auto-posted.

Enjoy the Silence

Yesterday was the first day of school for my kids.  K is in third grade and G in 7th – his first year in middle school (middle school here is only 7th and 8th grade).

It was a nice quiet day after two months of “I’m bored” and bickering between the two.  Either that or loud kids’ programming of stuff I didn’t want to watch.  We did do some things away from the house, but mostly they had lazy days of sleeping late and playing outside with friends.  We did most of our activities when hubby was home as a family.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids and would kill for them, but it was very nice to have a quiet day (or at least a few hours) to just sit in utter silence.

Here they are for the “obligatory” first day of school photo.  I colored out G’s shirt because he has to wear a uniform shirt to school with the school’s name on it.

Here we are waiting for K’s class to open up so we can meet her teacher and drop her mountain of school supplies off

And here K is at her desk before I left her.  She was a bit nervous because we changed schools this year.  She knew no one there unlike her other school where she went to school with several kids since kindergarten.

When she got into the car she was so happy and said she loved her teacher and loved the school and had an awesome day.  G also said he loved middle school and it was a good school.  His school is right next to her school – the main reason we moved K to a new school.

It is awesome when the kids love the school they are in!

But in the meantime I will Enjoy the silence and go sew for a little while!

Newly Pierced Ears

My daughter is about to turn 8 in a week.  She wanted to get her ears re-pierced.  She had them done as a baby – but by not wearing earrings regularly, her holes grew in.  She had asked for them for about a year, but I felt she wasn’t really ready for them again, until now.  I told her that I would let her get her ears pierced again for one of her 8th birthday presents.

Again, sorry about the photos – from my phone – I forgot my camera again.

Here she is anxiously waiting for the lady to be able to start. She asked for braided pigtails so that the lady would have no problem with getting to her ears.  Very thoughtful of her.

Here is the cleaning – she is still smiles…

First ear – a little anxious – but still ok…

Second ear… yea… not happy.

She loves her earrings and is happy with them.  She takes care of them herself too.

The Bishop Museum

One of the things that we did while I was on an unexpected month-long hiatus was go to the Bishop Museum with a friend.

There was a dinosaur exhibit and my son used to be a HUGE dinosaur fan.  He could spout off information about dinosaurs and pronounce complicated names with no hesitation. (Now that information is about Pokémon and I just nod and go “uhhuh”)

Sorry about the photos – it was an impromptu visit after lunch with a good friend before she moved off Oahu and all I had was my iPhone.

Going to the museum sparked his interest in dinosaurs again – though it is still second to Pokémon.

Beach Day

Last weekend, we went to Bellows AFS Beach.  It is a lovely beach on an Air Force station here on Oahu.  Only military members and family (and guests) are allowed to go on this beach.  It is my favorite beach on the island.

The sand is just awesome!  It is a finer powdery sand that is firm when you walk on it.

Here is my daughter with her boogie board.  The waves at this beach is just right.

We play toss on the beach too most times we go.  Here is my son getting ready to throw the mini football.

Then we ate lunch – there is a Subway right there on the beach – also a little convenience store.

After a little waiting after lunch – we went back into the water…
