I am just pitiful!

The idea of finishing one UFO a month was great.  After all, I could manage to get one quilt quilted a month right?

WRONG.

January I had the problem of not being able to sandwich a quilt.  It was a good excuse.  I didn’t want to damage my new dining room table.  Then my friend Joan came to my rescue and sent me a video on a new method. I will admit that I was interested, so about midway through the month, I finally got around to going to the hardware store for some boards.

I tried it and liked it.  It was SO easy to sandwich a quilt.  I did change the method up just a little to suit me better.  I drew a line on the board at the halfway point.  I then marked the center point on each end of the quilt with masking tape.  I also taped down the first edge so that it was easier to roll up.

I managed to get three quilts sandwiched in two days.  A record for me.

I even started to quilt one.  But it wasn’t one on my UFO listing to the right.  It was one from my list way back in January.  Oh well.  I still have March, right?  It shouldn’t be hard to quilt a bunch of quilts this month, right?  Considering I still have to sandwich two of them?  Do you think I can do it?

Nancy husband has picked #2 for the UFO challenge this month.  At least it is one that I already have the backing for and don’t have to buy any.  Yea!

UFO Challenge Report

Um… yea.  It didn’t work for me.  I wanted to do it.  But I have been having troubles trying to sandwich things lately.  I don’t know how to do it now that I have a new table that I don’t want to use for sandwiching.  As far as I got was getting the backing pieced.  I did attempt to sandwich it.  I ended up taking out everything because it was so bunched up in the back that I wouldn’t have gotten very far without having to rip it out because of a puckered backing.  That will be something I will be working on during this first week of February.

The new challenge for February is #7 which for me is my Yellow Brick Road aka – Triple Scoop.

January’s UFO

Nancy has chosen a number for the UFO Challenge – Number 4.

That one for me is my “Home for the Holidays” quilt.

Home for the Holidays was a quilt that was started from the 2007 Fall  Patchwork Party.  I didn’t like any of the finishing kits, so I was going to design my own when I bought additional fabrics.  I never got around to it and thought all was lost because you couldn’t find the fabrics any longer.  They then came out with an additional line of fabric which matched the original line.  I bought some of it and then did a simple setting.

This quilt has to have the backing pieced – I have some fatquarters that I bought as an “oops kit” to finish in case I made a mistake.    I will cut large squares out and piece them together randomly to make the back.    I already have the batting cut out.  I have to sandwich, quilt and bind the  quilt to finish it.

2010 UFO Challenge

Patchwork Penquin has a challenge for January – October of 2010.

We list 10 of our UFOs, she then chooses a number 1-10 and then we work on that UFO to get it done within that month.  I am going to do this, but I am going to limit my UFOs to tops that need to be completed that do not have a due date before October (I have a few that need to be done in April &  May).  I will also put this list in my sidebar so that it is a constant reminder.

Here they are:

1.  Blue and Yellow

2. Designer Mystery 2008

3.  Fall’s New Hope

4.  Home For the Holidays

5.  Pink Lemonade

6.  Sparkling Gemstones

7. Yellow Brick Road

8. Summer Dance

9. Step It Up

10. Autumn BQ
