Camera/Cell/Id Case

When I made my miPad Case, a few days later I made this Camera/Cell/Id Wallet.  The pattern is also from byAnnie.  Again, a very labor-intensive project, but well worth it.

I added an additional zippered pocket to each side of the case inside (I don’t like having my extra batteries and SD cards falling out) and with the tutorial on her site, it was an easy addition.

Because my miPad case has appliqued turtles on the case, I had tried to applique matching turtles on this case too.  Though no matter how I turned the turtle, it didn’t work well with the shape of the flap.  I tried to go smaller, but it was too small.   I mentioned it to my friend JoAnne when I was showing her mine (she was responsible for me wanting to make this after seeing hers and our friend Joan’s).  She mentioned to me that she had recently bought some great turtle buttons and gave me one.  Thanks JoAnne!

This combination case comes with an extra long strap you can wear across your body so that this is all you have to take when you are off exploring and doing touristy type things.

This side you can put your cell phone in and it will be easy to get to.

This side of the case, you can stick your ID in where you don’t have to grab for it and it is right where people can see it that need to.

Here is the inside shot.  It has some pockets for credit cards, etc.  I put in the additional zippered pockets above the credit card pockets.  It also sports a double zipper pull.  I bought the finishing kit from the site when I bought the pattern.

Soon I must purchase the Executive Carry-All pattern for my laptop.

Bento Box

Another finished top – I am on a roll!

This top was my “January UFO” for Nancy’s UFO Challenge.  It has been sandwiched since then, but until recently, I didn’t know how I wanted to quilt it.

I drafted some arcs in EQ and printed them out.  I then used “Golden Needles” paper and made a template by sewing along the lines with my machine unthreaded.  I then used my quilter’s pounce to mark each block as I quilted them.

I am happy to finally get this quilt done!

Rebekah’s Fancy

My neighbor Rebekah moved this past weekend back to the mainland.  In addition to being an awesome neighbor and friend, we were blessed with some of the things they didn’t want to move with them; their grill among many other things.  It is timely because we were debating buying a new grill because ours was starting to rust really bad (the salty air is not good for grills here!) but didn’t want to spend a lot of money for just under two years.  While the movers will move them, the cleaning requirements is just unreal for them.

Rebekah LOVES purple.  She constantly joked with me that she wanted me to make her a quilt.  She never really expected it (especially when her move came very suddenly).  It was always my intention to teach her to quilt.  She showed interest, but with a younger daughter and then last year home-schooling her children, it wasn’t a possibility.

When I found out she was moving a few weeks ago, I really wanted to make her a quilt.  I looked in my stash, naturally, for something purple.  I really didn’t have anything.  Then I was organizing some older projects and came across the blocks for this.  They have been finished for a few years (like four) just awaiting the perfect setting for the quilt.

I never bought the finishing kit for this BOM quilt.  I had bought several yards of the white fabric that is in it because I lucked upon it when I was out shopping one time when we lived in Washington.  I decided it was time to finish it and give it to her.  I even had the perfect backing and binding fabric that was accidentally bought a few months ago .  I thought it was a different color online and bought enough for another project.  It was meant to be!

After I showed it at guild this past Monday night, I was coming home and she and her husband was in their garage finishing up last minute things before the packers came the next day.  Though I had planned on giving it to her in a gift bag, the opportunity was perfect.  That way if she wanted to pack it with her household goods she could.

We will miss having you as a neighbor, Rebekah!

Red, White, and Bold

A quilt that I finished recently was my “Red, White, and Bold” quilt.

I used a couple of Jelly Rolls of the same name to make it.  I can’t remember what the pattern was though.

CIMG0524

It was just stippled/meandered with a red thread.  I did discover, however, that I don’t like using anything but King Tut/ Superior Threads for quilting as the thread I used kept breaking no matter what I did.

miPad Case

I just finished a new project, one I have been working on for two days.  It was very easy, but very labor-intensive and detail oriented.

CIMG0474

It is the miPad case from http://www.byannie.com/.  She even had a step-by-step video tutorial for it.  I only used it for a couple of steps, but it was very nice to be able to get clarification before doing the step since I am a visual person.

Behind the honu (turtles) is done with texture magic.  It has soft-and-stable inside, which I really loved working with until there was about 10 layers of things to sew through… but since it was close to the last step, and she advised to go slow and have a titanium needle in there, it was fine – I also used my walking foot.

The strap was an adjustable one.  I did have to watch the video a couple of times to figure it out, but once I did, I felt like an idiot.

Here are more photos of the bag:

The back side of the bag with a zipper (I have NEVER put in a zipper before).  It also shows the bottom of the bag.

The inside of the bag with the zipper.  The seams are enclosed with a neat step.

CIMG0476

The top of the bag.  This zipper was a bit tricky, but with her video tutorial, I took it step-by-step and it was fine.

CIMG0477

The inside of the bag.  It has a pocket.  I almost didn’t put it in there, but that would be a nice place to keep my cord and possibly the power outlet.

This is the photo with my iPad in there.  It is roomy, but I could get my nook in here too.

All-in-all I am very happy with this bag.  I probably could have been done with it in a day but I only worked on it when the kids were in school and I got a late start and they had a short day.

I can’t wait to work on my other projects with this fabric that I am doing!
