So I set out to clean it. I think it was mainly because I wanted to sew, but didn’t know where to start in that mess. There was mail all over the long table, fabric every where, even some school photographs that K decided SHE wanted to cut (boy was I mad!!). It took about an hour to clean - not really that long. The fabric is folded up and put away, mail is put in the “to shred” box (basically, sort out the stuff to shred, just throw away, or file), and I even cut the excess of my new design wall that was an extra long flannel backed tablecloth.

Ok… I am not looking to the stars, but my UFO piles. I am going to try and ask for help every Tuesday on a particular UFO (I have MANY!!) that I have a problem with. Each UFO has its own problem that I will highlight in the post that I am asking for help in.

For this first one, I will ask for help on an OLD UFO. My next oldest UFO since I have completed the Irish Chain quilt last week.

This quilt I started in early 2001. It is for my husband’s oldest brother and his wife. When I started it, the quilt was supposed to be a wedding present - in October of 2001. Yes. It is still sitting there in my UFO bin.

Some of the problem is the points don’t match as much as I wanted it to. My skills were seriously lacking at that point (I was a fairly new quilter) and this was the second quilt I attempted on my own, third quilt I have started. Another problem, is that it is supposed to be a king sized quilt - with a drop for their bed. I wanted to do a complicated border on it to finish out the stars. I bet it will end up just slightly larger than queen size before borders. I have enough blocks to two more rows. I also have about 1 1/2 yards of the floral left and about a yard of the burgundy fabric.

How would you finish it? Should I go ahead and mry ake it end up the size it is going to be, or really try to make it the king with a drop.

I really need to get this finished. Before their 10-year anniversary.

December will be a very busy month. Lots of things to do and see. Christmas presents to wrap before the kids get out of school for the holidays, my BILs retirement ceremony, my husband’s birthday, friends coming home from deployment. Yes, it will be a very busy month indeed.

The kids will be off for Christmas vacation starting after school December 19th and go back on January 13th. The perils of year-round school -month long breaks for Christmas. That is ok, at least the weather here is generally good enough to go outside all day and play and they have friends here in the area of the neighborhood.

So what of the December goals you ask? What do I plan on working on this month if I am going to be so busy. I will be working on simple blocks. Nothing major in themselves, but smaller projects that I can do in about an hour or so.

Simply Sophisticated - Month 3

Designer Mystery - Months 6 & 7

Home for the Holidays - one block

Prairie Paisley - one block

Sweet Treasures - months 1-4 (thank you Vicky… yea… uh huh, it is all your fault!! I had to order them after seeing them again on your blog!)

Will I get all of these done? I don’t know, but I am sure going to try my hardest. January will be the month to quilt some. I have a ton of tops to be quilted.

So my goals for November were pretty slim. I managed to get all but two done ( Designer Mystery Block 6 and Binding the QOV). I will probably do the Designer Mystery block later today though.

I worked on my Designer Mystery (block 2 ) ,my Simply Sophisticated BOM (months 1 & 2), put borders on my Autumn BQ, and put the binding on my Irish Chain.

The only thing only thing that I didn’t get done was binding the quilt of valor. The main obstacle on that one is I don’t have fabric that would look good as binding and/or matching thread.
