First Finish of 2012

I got my 12 Days of Christmas top completed and quilted over the weekend.

It looks a little off, but it is the angle of the photo.

I set it differently than the mystery pattern called for.  I didn’t have yardage of anything but some Moda Bella Snow that I keep in my stash.  There isn’t yardage available yet of the Prairie Paisley II yet.  The red binding is from the first line that I had a bit extra of.

The pieced border are 1/2” finished squares – to give you a scale of this quilt.  The blocks are 3” finished.

I do want to come up with a new name for it though, it seems to me that it doesn’t scream “Christmas” to me.

12 Days of Christmas

Temecula Quilt Co. had a free Block of the Day for twelve days starting on Christmas Day.  I watched as it grew interesting.  Then I decided I wanted to play along.  But one thing, my machine was not working and in the shop.  I also wanted to do it in patriotic colors.  I ordered a charm pack of Prairie Paisley II from eBay and they came in yesterday on Day 11.

Today, I got all the blocks done.  Each block is onlly 3 1/2” inches square.

Here they are in order… notice a pattern?

Each day, the number of the day correlates to the number of patches in the block.  I also did not repeat a fabric in another block – so each fabric only appears in one block.

I am looking forward to seeing how they set these. The mystery will be revealed tomorrow (the 6th).  It only took me about two hours to make all 12 blocks.  I did re-make block 7 because at the end I noticed each of the blocks except that one had no fabric repeats, so I remade that block.

Some BOM Blocks

My guild, like many, has a block of the month drawing every month that there is a regular meeting (10 a year).  To enter in the drawing, you must complete two blocks.  One for the “kitty” and one for our charity group “Na Lima Aloha” (The Hands of Love.  This way the charity gets blocks to help out too.  I really like when we started that because it is an easy way to get some charity work in.

This month the block was a simple one, but done in black, white, and red.  While I was doing my massive cutting, I cut out two sets of blocks – for a total of four blocks to make.

I really want to win this month, I will get two entries into the BOM.  I want to win it because these are my son’s favorite colors (black and red).

Here are the blocks done up (one in each fabric set)

These were the first things I sewed on Bessie after her spa treatment.  She had to have a few parts replaced, two of them – the repairman said he had NEVER seen them worn out before.  Also, when he was checking me out, he was going over his normal spiel of 2 years for the next service, etc. and he stopped, corrected himself and said “for you, I would go every year.”   It had been only 10 months since my last service, so I know I had been doing a lot of sewing!

It sewed so quietly after the service, I couldn’t believe the stitches were actually forming; before when the machine sounded like that, the threads were not catching.  I was constantly slowing down and checking to make sure it was working!!

Cutting and Cutting and more Cutting

This week, while Bessie* was at the spa, I got some cutting done.

First, I cut out the two blocks that I am behind with for the Fat Quarter Shop’s 2011 Designer Mystery Block of the Month

I also cut out the two blocks I am behind in for the Fat Quarter’ Shops “Love Letters” Block of the Month

I cut out the remaining blocks for my Jelly Roll Quilt along quilt (UFO) – sorry, no photos.

I finished cutting for my Bliss Quilt

I also got two new quilts cut out, Folded Log Cabin and Terrain.

The Folded Log Cabin comes from this book:

and here are the strips cut and pressed ready to go.  I think I will wait until my 6600 comes along with her even feed foot to start on this one.

I also got another quilt ready to go, using Terrain by Kate Spain

*Bessie is what I decided to call my 6500. I just think that sounds like a hard-working name; one that conveys that she isn’t afraid to work hard.

Monday Milestones–Returns

I have missed doing my “Monday Milestones” posts.  I like having lists of things to accomplish during the week.

A few changes from last year.  I am not going to do the Mr.Linky thing again, it just got too much.

Since my machine will be in for service most of the week, I am only going to have a few goals.

1.  Finish prep-work for for my Folded Log Cabins
2.  Sandwich “Paris in the Fall”
3.  Cut out “Terrain”

If I get more done, that would be great, but I am not going to plan that much for this week.
